Further Dosing Advice: BEFORE USE, please read this advice.
Dose for children age 3-6: Give one capsule per day in the morning before food. Higher dosing should not be necessary in very young children.
Dose for children age 7-12: For the first five days give 1 capsule per day.
If symptoms improve maintain this dose. If no improvements are noticed increase dose to 2 capsules per day taken as one dose in the morning before food.
Teenagers and Adults: Take 2 capsules in the morning before breakfast.
In cases of severe gut issues more doses may be necessary to affect healthy changes.
Additional doses can be taken, 1 or 2 capsules at a time, preferably before lunch and dinner.
How to take Enzo Gut Repair:
Preferably, capsules should be swallowed whole since the powder tastes astringent and possibly unpleasant to many people.
Preferably, take in the morning before food with a large glass of water (but can also be taken with food).
Doses can be split into two or more over the day. If a child does not swallow capsules you
can pull the capsule apart and mix the powder into mashed banana or other fruit. Sweetness masks the astringent taste best. Avoid milk products within 1 hr of taking the capsules since milk proteins may inactivate the product

Polyphenols are phytochemicals that are abundant in plant foods. Increased intake of polyphenols promotes the health of many organ systems in our body. The health benefits for the gut occur through the anti-inflammatory properties of the polyphenols which make these plant compounds a very important part of our diet. They can modulate the inflammatory response by getting into direct contact with the cells in our gut walls and changing their responses to several key factors controlling inflammation.
ENZO Gut Repair compounds can inhibit the response to several pro-inflammatory factors (in the NFκB and MAPK pathways) that are produced within our gut walls if we have an irritated bowel and consequently support lesser irritation and a re-balancing process in the gut. If the gut is not irritated ENZO Gut Repair will help to maintain gut heath and promote overall digestive health.
Research on Proanthocyanidins (PACs) and Piceatannol on Gut Health
PACs, which are the main polyphenol in Enzogenol, can increase the production of intestinal mucosal tight junction proteins in a rat model of postweaning diarrhea (Song). These are proteins responsible for the barrier function in the gut epithelium. In addition, this study also showed that PACs can also improve the anti-oxidant status of the gut epithelium (Song).
Piceatannol is a stilbene compound found in Enzogenol. It modifies multiple cellular targets by exerting immunosuppressive and antitumorigenic activities. In a mouse model of chemically induced colitis Piceatannol has been shown to slow down the development of colitis (Kim).
Pine bark extract has been shown to reduce mucosal damage in the gut in a rat model of chemically induced IBD (Mochizuki).
Research on Epigallocatechin-gallate (EGCG) and Gut Health
EGCG, the main polyphenol in TeaHealthy, can downregulate the inflammatory response in inflamed epithelial cells of the gut. EGCG has been shown to inhibit many of the inflammatory reactions that are involved in irritation and inflammation of the gut. EGCG significantly reduces the amount pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-6 and IL-8 produced by the gut, and by the immune cells. IL-6 stimulates the inflammatory and auto-immune reactions in the gut walls. IL-8 attracts neutrophils to the site of the gut irritation and promotes phagocytosis. EGCG downregulates the inflammatory response in inflamed intestinal epithelial cells by reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-6 and IL-8 by 50-60% (Sergent).
The consumption of green tea has also been associated with lower rates of several cancers including bowel cancer, because EGCG can block each stage of cancer development by modulating signal transduction pathways involved in cell proliferation, transformation, inflammation, apoptosis, metastasis and invasion (Na).
Research on Catechin and Gut Health
Catechin, one of the main polyphenols in Enzogenol and in TeaHealthy, has been shown to reduce damage to the gut walls caused by inflammation. In a rat model of chemically induced ulcerative colitis catechin feeding led to a significant decrease in colon damage (Sato).
Research on Elagic Acid and Gut Health
Pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) has traditionally been used for the treatment of various inflammatory diseases, including ulcerative colitis. Because its extract, POMx, is rich in ellagitannins, which release ellagic acid when hydrolyzed, consumption of POMx has several potential health effects, including prevention of inflammatory diseases. Research in a chemically induced ulcerative colitis mouse model has shown how elagic acid can reduce inflammation and inhibit disease progression. In acute UC, ellagic acid ameliorates disease severity through the profile of inflammatory mediators (IL-6, TNF-α, and IFN-γ). In the chronic UC, ellagic acid inhibits the progression of the disease, reducing intestinal inflammation and decreasing histological scores. Moreover, mediators such as COX-2 and iNOS are downregulated and the signaling pathways p38 MAPK, NF-κB, and STAT3 are blocked (Marin).
Research on the Effects of Polyphenols on the Gut Microflora
EGCG, catechin, PACs, and the other phenolic components of TeaHealthy and Enzogenol influence the growth and metabolism of the many different types of bacteria in our gut. Different strains of intestinal bacteria have varying degrees of growth sensitivity to these phenolic compounds and their metabolites. Growth of certain pathogenic bacteria (Clostridium perfringens, C. difficile and Bacteroides species) can be inhibited, while commensal anaerobes like Bifidobacteria and Lactobacilli are not inhibited and can proliferate significantly.
In a study on postmenopausal women supplementation with Isoflavones, genistein, diazein, glycetein from soy, there was an increase in Bifidobacteria within 2 months without using any actual pro-biotics. In this trial, the isoflavones altered dominant bacterial communities with increases in Clostridium coccoides−Eubacterium rectale (Erec) cluster, Faecalibacterium prasnutzii subgroup, and Lactobacillus−Enterococcus group.
This research demonstrates how these compounds change the intestinal environment in a positive way and modulate the intestinal bacterial populations, by acting as metabolic prebiotics. This bioactivity plays an important role in the maintenance of gastrointestinal health (Lee, Tzounis, Etxeberria).

Very occasionally an upset in digestion in form of constipation or diarrhea has occurred. This disappeared very soon after stopping the capsules, and often does not reoccur when the capsules were started again at a lower dose.
