Common Uses

Apricot kernels are indicated for use in cancer prevention and treatment due to their laetrile content. Believed to attack only malignant cells making it less toxic than other cancer chemotherapy. Also contains a substance, benzaldehyde which helps manage pain.

A message from Our Fathers Farm. Why do we promote Apricot Kernels?

We believe apricot kernels are one of the many super foods given to us by the Lord, for excellent health.   "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food."

As in many other fruit seeds and grains, the apricot kernel contains protective food factors essential to the human diet that are non-toxic in reasonable quantities and water-soluble.  Our goal is to see that Apricot Kernels may be as common in every household as salt & pepper is today.

In addition to its anti-cancer properties, the apricot is among the highest grade of nutrient-rich fruits. When dried, the concentration of nutrients becomes even greater. A 3 1/2 ounce portion of dried apricots is packed with nearly 11,000 units of vitamin A as well as a great deal of iron, potassium and natural food fiber.

Other uses of Apricot Kernels.

For centuries the apricot kernel has been used as a facial scrub to enhance youthful looking and soft skin.  The kernels products are used in massage, aromatherapy, food recipes such marzipan, spices, cosmetics and health applications worldwide.

Suggested Dosage

MAF have informed us that "to be safe" people should eat no more than four kernels a day.  The kernels are chewed thoroughly or ground up and sprinkled on food, or as recommended by a physician. In all cases of ill health, seek advice from a qualified health practitioner before self prescribing.  Warning.  Over consumption will cause toxicity.  At Our fathers Farm, they suggest to soak the amount of kernels intended for use the next day, for 8 to 10 hours before use.

Tell Me More About Fruit Seeds and Cyanide

The first thing to note about cyanide is that its compounds are very different from one another.  Hydrocyanic acid, which occurs in nature (eg. In the seed of common fruits- except citrus) is worlds apart from the potassium cyanide used in the gas chamber (for example).

The second thing to note is that there is no free hydrogen cyanide floating around in the hydrocyanic acid of the foods such as apricot kernels, buckwheat, millet and cassava.

Hydrogen cyanide (HCN) has to be manufactured by the tumour enzyme beta-glucosidase when hydrocyanic acid comes into contact with tumour tissue.  Tests show that even when HCN is present in the body in this beneficial reaction, it is harmless to healthy tissue and non- toxic.

Hundreds of thousands of people consume reasonable amounts apricot kernels each day with no problems.

The problem could occur for example if one were to consume too many kernels at one sitting.

Question:  What are the symptoms?

Answer:  Occasionally a feeling of nausea, dizziness or blurred vision could occur if one were to consume too many kernels at one sitting.

If any of these occur, then remember how many kernels you ate at one time and simply make sure you don't repeat that experience.

Some recipies using Apricot Kernels from the people at Our fathers Farm.

Ariels's Blueberry Smoothie Delight.  In a blender mix 3/4 Cup of Yogurt, 1/2 Cup of Blueberries (fresh or frozen), 1/2 Cup of Raspberries (fresh or frozen), 1 Frozen Banana, 8 Apricot Kernels, 4 tsp. of Maple Syrup.  Blend it all together and serve!

Frog Hopper Smoothie.  1 frozen banana, 1 cup fresh pineapple, 1 oz Barley Max, 1/2 cup pineapple juice or coconut water, 1/4 cup coconut meat, 2 apricot seeds.  Blend all ingredients together in a blender and serve immediately.  You may add more juice /water to thin it out if desired.

A Yummy Recipe. Chocolate B 17 Bliss.  This raw food recipe is approved by my 7 year old daughter – Ariel.  Recommended equipment – a Vita Mix blender.  1 cup medjool dates.  1/3 cup cacoa powder, 1 cup pure water, 2 tsp vanilla extract, 7 apricot seeds (soaked overnight) Soak dates in 1 cup of very warm water until soft. 

Drain the water but reserve it for later.  Remove the pits from the dates.  In a strong blender, add dates, water, apricot kernels, cocoa, and vanilla.Blend until you have a creamy consistency. This is a great recipe as a healthy pudding, or as a fruit dip…..and it will fulfill that chocolate craving that we all experience.

Recipes & Tips.  Hunza Treat.  Ingredients:  2  Cups Sweet Apricot  Kernels, 1/2 Cup Raw Unfiltered Honey, 1/3 Cup Coconut.  Grind kernels to a fine meal.  Work in enough honey to make a sticky dough.  Roll into little balls or a log shape and roll in coconut.  Refrigerate for 1 hour.  Slice and serve.

Apricot Facial Scrub.  Ingredients:  50 apricot kernels, 5 tbls of olive oil, 5 tbls aloe vera gel. 

Put 25 kernels in a food processor and grind them to a powder, then do the same with the other 25.  Add 5 tbs of olive oil and mix into the kernel powder.  Blend 5 tbls of aloe gel and mix well.  Set the mixture in a container with a lid.   Add more olive oil to reach a smoother texture (if desired).  Apply to face each morning & evening, leaving on for 5-15 minutes, and washing away with water.  Store in the refrigerator.

Laetrile is an amygdalin, a simple chemical compound consisting of 2 molecules of sugar, 1 molecule of benzaldehyde, and 1 molecule of cyanide. Nitrilosides are known as "laetrile" when used in medical dosage form. Laetrile is a natural substance made from apricot pits and is claimed by its developers to have a specific cancer preventative and controlling effect. Dr Ernest Krebs Sr., who was the 1st to use laetrile therapeutically in the USA, considered laetrile to be an essential vitamin and named it B17. Laetrile has been legalised in several states in the USA, however many doctors in the medical community reject its use in human cancer patients on the grounds that it is ineffective and may be poisonous because of its cyanide content. This view is not held by Dr Dean Burk, chief cytologist of the National Cancer Institute, who has conducted extensive tests including the use of laetrile and states that "Laetrile is remarkably non-toxic … compared with virtually all cancer chemotherapeutic agents currently studied. Other scientists claim that cyanide occurring naturally in food is not dangerous. Laetrile is manufactured and used legally in over 17 countries throughout the world, including Mexico, Germany, Italy, Belgium, and the Philippines. Natural cyanide is locked in a sugar molecule. It is normally found in over 2,000 known unrefined foods and grasses. A concentration of about 2 or 3 percent laetrile is found in the whole kernels of most fruits, including apricots, apples, cherries, peaches, plums, and nectarines and in some 70 plants commonly fed to animals for fodder. A sprouting seed produces from 10 to 30 times as much laetrile. Shelled and unshelled apricot kernels contain 2 to 3 percent amygdalin and are also excellent sources of protein, unsaturated fatty acids, and minerals. According to its advocates, laetrile is a highly selective substance that attacks only the cancerous cells. When laetrile is eaten and absorbed by normal cells, an enzyme called rhodanese detoxifies the cyanide, which is then excreted through the urine. But because cancer cells are completely deficient in rhodanese and are instead surrounded by another enzyme, beta-glucosidase, which releases the bound cyanide from the laetrile at the site of malignancy, laetrile is believed to attack only the malignant areas.
