5-HTP is the immediate metabolite between the amino acid L-tryptophan and Serotonin. Serotonin produces an inhibitory effect on the nervous system that soothes, calms and creates a feeling of contentment. The brain chemical Serotonin has been known to researchers for nearly half a century and new research continues to demonstrate how it influences mood and emotion. Serotonin deficiency has been implicated in depression, anxiety, panic, migraines, appetite problems and PMS.
Vitamin B Complex. An adequate supply of the B Vitamins is essential for good health. They are needed for proper functioning of the nervous system, for maintenance of muscle tone in the gastrointestinal tract and for the health of the skin, hair, eyes, mouth and liver. As well as this B complex is essential in problems such as tiredness, depression, headaches and anaemia. The B vitamins function in many different ways to help enzymes carry out thousands of molecular conversions in the body and are therefore known as enzymes. They provide the body with energy by aiding in the conversion of carbohydrates to glucose, which the body burns to produce energy. The grouping of these compounds under the term B complex is based on their common source distribution, their close relationship in vegetable and animal tissues and their functional relationships. They are essential for the maintenance of muscle tone in the gastrointestinal tract and for the health of skin, hair, eyes, mouth and liver. Eating processed foods create a deficiency. They are also vital in the metabolism of fats and protein. B complex vitamins are water soluble. This means that any excess amounts are excreted and not stored in the body. Therefore they must be continually replaced. However it is important that none of the B vitamins are taken on there own. They are all so interrelated in function that doses of just one of them may be therapeutically valueless or may cause a deficiency of others. You should consider taking a B complex if you suffer with any of the following: If you are tired, irritable, nervous, depressed, if you have skin and hair problems, poor appetite, insomnia, constipation, high cholesterol, have heart problems including abnormal heart rhythm, enlarged heart, heart failure, weakness, pain, mental confusion, are an alcoholic, suffer with migraines, shingles, burning feet, burning & dry eyes, skin disorders, have cracks at the corner of your mouth or suffer with anaemia - to name a few.
