Minerals are essential to meet physical and mental demands

Minerals are essential to meet physical and mental demands

Wednesday, October 11th 2006

Minerals are essential to life. Without them, cellular function is impaired and the human body struggles to cope with the physical and mental demands of day-to-day life. Reduced levels of various minerals have been associated with symptoms such as fatigue, insomnia, poor digestion, recurring infections, poor wound healing, brittle hair and nails as well as neurological symptoms such as anxiety and depression. Minerals are essential for proper utilisation and absorption of all vitamins and most other nutrients, making them an important adjacent therapy while fine tuning the balance of other nutrients through supplementation.

Minerals are considered "micronutrients" this means, that unlike fats, proteins and sugars, they are required only in small amounts. If this is so, the question that may be asked is "if we only require small amounts, why can't we just get all the minerals we require through our diet?" The simple answer is supply and demand. Our NZ soul is naturally low in minerals due to glaciation and volcanic activity. Therefore our supply of minerals, through our foods, which comprise of plant substances and animal meats is reduced. On the other side of the scale, the demand of our western lifestyle requires a high supply of minerals to keep up with our physical and mental requirements. Exposure to pollution, intoxicants, stress and processed foods further increases the body's need for a proper and regular supply of minerals.

Dr. Balch, a well respected expert in the nutrition field claims "it can be difficult, if not impossible to obtain the amount of minerals needed for optimum health through diet alone. Some naturopaths believe that all physical disease stems from a mineral deficiency or imbalance, therefore, mineral therapy is incorporated in all their treatment regimes, regardless the nature of the condition. A good quality supplement, from a good brand with decent level of minerals is always recommended.

Radiance Mineral Power is a finely-tuned mineral formula providing essential minerals in a healthy ratio. The formula includes macro minerals (minerals required in doses over 100mg per day) such as calcium and magnesium in the correct 2:1 ratio. Trace minerals such as selenium, zinc, chromium, iron, vanadium, molybdenum, and manganese are also incorporated into this formula.

For health maintenance or as part of a comprehensive treatment plan, try starting out with mineral supplementation first.
