How Do You Know You Have Candida?
Sunday, January 1st 2006
Many women self-diagnose suspected Candida infections and commence treatment with general OTC products without any medical consultation. However, up to 50% misdiagnose the condition and end up using the wrong treatment regime. Now there is CanDia5, a new rapid test that confirms Candida overgrowth in less then 10 minutes.
Infection by Candida species is a condition of increasing clinical importance. Accurate diagnosis and treatment of the condition will positively and dramatically improve a person's quality of life and their level of comfort.
Candida yeast can exist as part of the microbial flora of the genital, gastrointestinal and upper respiratory tract.
Detection of Gastrointestinal Candidiasis
CanDia5 has been developed for the detection of Vulvovaginal Candidiasis. However, the majority of people use the test to detect gastrointestinal Candida infections. The signs and symptoms of gastrointestinal Candidiasis can be non-specific and the disorder can frequently be hard to diagnose. CanDia5 detects antibodies in the blood and is ideally suited for this application. Signs and symptoms of gastrointestinal candidiasis include heartburn, bloating, diarrhea and constipation.
Vulvovaginal Candidiasis (Thrush)
When the normal environment of the vagina is disturbed, this normally harmless yeast multiples and takes over causing an imbalance of the normal microbial flora.
This imbalance can be caused by: A recent course of antibiotics, oral contraceptives, hormone replacement therapy, douching, sexually transmitted diseases, vaginal medications, uncontrolled diabetes or other therapies that suppress the immune system.
If you experience the following symptoms: itchiness, soreness, redness or a thick, white vaginal discharge or a burning feeling upon urination, you could be suffering from candidiasis. The CanDia5 Rapid Test will provide a convenient, fast and accurate result.
Step One - Kill the Excess Candida
Confirm that you have a Candida problem with CanDia5. Then a combination product such as Radiance CandAid which includes Caprylic acid, black walnut, oregano oil, garlic, wormwood, cat's claw and olive leaf has proven effective at controlling candidiasis. Caprylic acid prevents the parent candida cell from multiplying and at high enough does causes the candida cell to leak and collapse.
Step Two - Restore the Intestinal Balance
It is vitally important that the intestines are repopulated quickly with the correct mix of "good" bacteria. Nature's Way Primadophilus capsules are the only proven effective age specific range of enteric coated probiotic capsules available in New Zealand. The enteric coating ensures that all the acidophilus, bifidus and Reuteri bacteria get into the intestines rather than being digested in the stomach. Yoghurt doesn't work effectively because the body digests it as food and the bacteria numbers are too low.
Step 3 - Repair the Intestinal Lining
Nature's Start Colostrum capsules provide critical nutrients to help repair the intestinal lining, especially where leaky gut syndrome is involved. Colostrum helps the growth of the intestinal villi, reduces allergies and ensures nutrients are absorbed better from food.
The basis of any anti-Candida control regime is correct nutrition. Before taking anything else - it is critical that the yeast is not fed. Avoid ALL sugars including sugar, honey, fructose etc, fresh and dried fruit, fruit juices, yeast products, battery eggs, alcohol and sweetened foods.
Water is essential - 6 to 8 large glasses daily to help the kidneys function better and help flush toxins, including dead yeast cells, out of the body. Eat plenty of fresh vegetables, meat, poultry, fish, free range eggs, beans, legumes, seeds, nuts (excluding peanuts) and rice. Toast all bread. Individual food sensitivities need to be taken into account.
*Please note that the CanDia5 tests are practitioner only, so ask your practitioner about testing you at your next appointment.
CanDia5 test kits are NO longer available in New Zealand.
