Doing it Naturally
We continue to hear and see reports in the media warning of the risk of heart attacks, stroke and various problems associated with circulation.
Since 800 A.D., the Chinese have grown red yeast (monascus pupureus) on cooked non-glutinous white rice. The resulting red yeast rice is dried and powdered and used by them medicinally. Clinical research has shown red yeast rice has benefits in helping to lower the risk of coronary heart disease by significantly increasing HDL (good) cholesterol and decreasing LDL (bad) cholesterol and triglycerides. This action is thought to be due to the inhibition of cholesterol production by the liver and the unsaturated fatty acid components effect on triglycerides.
It is the liver's job to produce cholesterol in the body. Healthy liver function will assist with the regulation of HDL to LDL cholesterol ratio. Milk Thistle is an effective liver tonic.
Studies have also shown Alpha Lipoic Acid to be effective in helping cardiovascular problems such as atherosclerosis, cerebrovascular diseases, high cholesterol and cerebral ischemia injury during surgery.
CoQ10 is essential to heart function. Regardless of the type of heart problem, research over the past 25 to 30 years has shown that at least 80% of heart patients can significantly improve their health using CoQ10. It also allows blood to flow more easily through the arteries ad veins, reducing strain on the heart.
