Thisilyn's superior bioavailability
Most milk thistle brands claim to contain 80% silymarin, but too much of it passes through the digestive system without being absorbed. That's because silymarin molecules tend to bind together and not break apart in the digestive tract. However, Nature's Way Thisilyn® is manufactured to a patented formula which significantly improves the absorption of silymarin.
Backed by over 200 scientific studies and over 25 years of intensive research, the unique Nature's Way Thisilyn® formula is protected by international patents. Germany's Commission E Herbal Monograph on milk thistle extract was based on Thisilyn® science. Throughout the world, Thisilyn® is the leading milk thistle extract recommended by doctors and used by consumers and it was the first milk thistle introduced to New Zealanders over fourteen years ago.
One Thisilyn® capsule is usually taken three times daily. Thisilyn® can be used safely on a long term basis, and is recommended for persons who drink alcohol, are exposed to environmental pollutants or consume an excessively fatty diet.
Most people, including pregnant and lactating women, may use Thisilyn®. Since silymarin stimulates liver and gallbladder activity, it may have a mild, transient laxative effect in some individuals which usually ceases within 2 to 3 days.
TOUGH ON TOXINS - GENTLE ON THE LIVER
Each day many of us are exposed to potentially harmful toxic substances such as: second hand cigarette smoke and pollutants in the air we breathe, unwanted chemicals and pesticides in the foods we eat, industrial solvents in the place of work and alcohol in the beverages we may drink. Numerous prescription drugs including anti-acne, anticonvulsants, cholesterol lowering, tricyclic antidepressants, major tranquillizers plus high doses of over the counter drugs such as paracetamol are potentially toxic to the liver.
Many of these substances are detoxified within the body by the liver.
How our liver helps
The liver is our body's primary "cleansing" organ, keeping toxins from affecting other systems such as the heart, blood vessels, eyes and skin. When overexposed to toxins and/or an excessive fatty diet, the liver can become less effective and damaged.
Fortunately the liver has the ability to heal itself. Regular exercise, abstention from smoking or excessive alcohol consumption, eating a healthy diet and regularly supplementing with a special milk thistle extract can help support a healthy liver.
Milk thistle's active bioflavonoid complex, silymarin, is a powerful antioxidant that exerts a protective affect against pollutants and other substances that may be harmful to the liver. Silymarin binds directly to the outside of liver cells and blocks the entrance of toxins. Silymarin also helps the liver produce glutathione, an extremely potent antioxidant and a natural front-line defence against free radical damage. The highest concentration of glutathione is found in the liver, where it is used as an "anti-toxin" to inactivate drugs, hormones and foreign chemicals. And in situations where the liver needs maximum support, silymarin also actually helps it synthesize new protein and regenerate injured liver cells. It also alters bile makeup, thereby potentially reducing the risk of gallstones and also preventing problems such as relapses of glandular fever.
