Fenugreek Seeds - Powerful Multiple Remedy
Thursday, February 20th 2003
Fenugreek (trigonella foenum-graecum) belongs to the legume family of plants that includes beans and peas. The seeds, beloved by the ancient Greeks, have been used internally for centuries for inflamed stomachs and intestines.
They were also used for the treatment of arthritis, bronchitis and chronic coughs. Researchers have discovered that Fenugreek has mild anti-inflammatory action, which supports its traditional use in arthritis and bronchitis.
Fenugreek not only supports liver function and protects all the mucous lined body organs it is also a digestive system herb and an excellent food for the nervous system. It is therefore a powerful multiple remedy.
It clears and promotes the drainage of the body by the lymphatic system. Fenugreek is a diaphoretic allowing the skin to 'breathe' better and is slightly diuretic helping eliminate excess fluid.
When vegetarians and others are unable to take Cod Liver Oil to tone up the mucous linings and protect against colds, flu, viral attacks and bacterial infections, Fenugreek is a vegetable alternative.
Who needs Fenugreek?
It is especially helpful for people who don't sweat much with slightly yellow skin colour and people who are sedentary, overweight and flabby with a distinct lack of interest in exercise.
For children, open a capsule and make a tea to give at body temperature for reducing fever in children. There will be natural sweating and a reduction in temperature, which can also reduce itchiness and discomfort of skin rashes.
In Chinese medicine it is used to treat cold pain in the lower abdomen, impotence and hernia. In Indian medicine it is used for fever, vomiting, coughs, anorexia, bronchitis and colitis. Indian researchers confirmed its benefits in reducing high cholesterol.
