Diabetes and Insulin Resistance
Diabetes is a metabolic disorder characterised by a decreased ability or complete inability of the body to utilise carbohydrates. The end result is a reduced clearance of glucose from the blood or a decreased uptake of glucose by muscle & fat cells.
Oversecretion of insulin by the pancreas results in hypoglycemia, a condition in which there is an abnormally low level of glucose (sugar) in the blood. Hereditary can be a cause, but this condition is often precipitated by an inadequate diet.
