Minerals are nutrients that exist in the body and in food. All tissues and internal fluids of living things contain varying quantities of minerals. Just like vitamins, certain minerals are required by your body to help it grow, develop, and stay healthy. The body uses minerals to perform many different functions — from building strong bones to transmitting nerve impulses. There are 2 kinds of minerals – macro (e.g. calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium) and trace (e.g. iron, copper, iodine, zinc and selenium). Your body needs larger amounts of macrominerals than trace.
