Mineral Power - a supplement high in calcium & magnesium
New Zealand is notoriously low in many minerals. Minerals are constituents of bones, teeth, soft tissues, muscle, blood & nerve cells. They are responsible for nervous system transmission, muscle responses and hormone production, amongst other things.
Radiance Mineral Power is a mineral supplement that is high in calcium and magnesium, but low in iron. This makes it an ideal supplement for men, but also excellent for women. Each tablet contains 500mg of calcium and 250mg of magnesium. Also included are zinc, iron, copper, potassium, manganese, selenium, chromium, boron, molybdenum, vanadium, iodine (kelp), glutamic acid HCL and vitamin D. All of these are in a base, which includes 70 trace minerals and cofactors from ancient sea deposits.
Especially for New Zealanders?
New Zealand is notoriously low in many minerals due to glaciation and volcanic activity. Our farmers have known this for years and have regularly supplemented their land and animals with minerals. In 1997, a capsule was developed for sheep combining trace element supplements to combat facial eczema. It contains selenium, cobalt and zinc. So despite dietitians telling us "its all in our food", it would appear that the farmers know better.
Minerals are constituents of the bones, teeth, soft tissue, muscle, blood and nerve cells. Minerals, just like vitamins, act as catalysts for many biological reactions within the human body, including muscle response, the transmission of messages throughout the nervous system, digestion and metabolism of utilisation of nutrients in foods. They are important in the production of hormones, particularly the sex hormones.
It is important to realise that a mineral's action in the body is interrelated with other minerals; no one mineral can function without affecting others. As well as this, physical and emotional stress cause a strain on the body's supply of minerals. A mineral deficiency often results in illness, which may be corrected by the addition of the missing mineral to the diet.
Who would need to take a mineral supplement?
Everyone needs to ensure their mineral intake is at adequate levels. However, I believe the following people need minerals more than others:
Anyone who is startled or jumps at sudden sounds
People who experience regular stress
Those who have a hyperactive personality
Anyone with a family history of osteoporosis
Those who get muscle cramps or have twitches (such as in the eye)
People whose hair and nails chip and split easily
People who have sleeping problems
Those who bite their fingernails
If you fall into any of these categories, you need to take a mineral supplement.
The uses of minerals in the body
Calcium for growth, bones, teeth, clotting of blood, nerve and muscle response, proper heart action
Magnesium maintains the nervous system, prevents cramping and muscles spasms
Zinc repairs wounds, immune system function, prostate function and reproductive organs
Iron is essential in the formation of haemoglobin and red blood cells, bone formation, healing, skin and hair pigmentation and protein metabolism
Copper helps red blood cells utilise iron, is part of many enzymes, works with vitamin C to form elastin
Potassium maintains fluid and mineral balance, helps nerves & muscles and is essential for heart function
Manganese is required for normal nervous system functions, bone growth, reproduction & cell function
Selenium is an antioxidant and helps maintain healthy muscles and red blood cells
Chromium works with insulin to help keep blood sugar levels steady and increases effectiveness of insulin
Molybdenum plays a part in preventing anaemia, found in tooth enamel, important in the prevention of dental caries
Vanadium helps inhibit cholesterol formation, important for bone, cartilage and tooth development
Iodine an essential part of the hormone thyroxine, regulates production of energy and rate of metabolism
L-Glutamic acid (HCL) metabolises sugars & fats, is the only compound used for brain fuel
Boron is important for the uptake of calcium and other minerals into skeletal tissue
Radiance Mineral Power is an excellent supplement and can be taken by men, women and children.
