Adults take one to three tablets daily or as directed by your health care professional. The adult recommended daily intake of Magnesium from all sources is around 300mg per day. Each of these tablets contanins 100mg. Children (2-12) can ake up to two tablets daily.
When choosing a Magnesium supplement, there are two important factors to consider - 1) the amount of elemental magnesium the supplement provides and 2) the type of magnesium used in the supplement (i.e. magnesium oxide, magnesium phosphate etc). The Magnesium amino acid chelate used in this supplement provides both a good level of elemental magnesium per tablet, and delivers it in a well absorbed form. Although we could have offered a higher level of magnesium by using magnesium oxide, this is a relatively difficult form of magnesium for the body to absorb. Thus the bio available amount of magnesium is low. Similarly, magnesium aspartate and magnesium orotate are considered the best absorbed forms of magnesium, however these forms offer little in the way of elemental magnesium - no where near the 100mg from these tablets. The recommended daily intake of elemental magnesium is 400mg per day. Given that we get some from the diet, 1-2 tablets daily is an appropriate ongoing dose to top up the dietary levels. However when using magnesium therapeutically, for conditions like muscle cramps and spasms, stress, headache pain and function of the nervous system, up to three tablets per day can be taken, preferably in the evening..
