A super berry with anti oxidant and anti inflammatory benefits.
Recent scientific study findings: Acai has only recently come into global interest, therefore at this stage, not many studies have been conducted into its unique health benefits, however traditional use and current research shows that more research is warranted. the following studies have illuminated some areas that have drawn the most interest:
Acai has potent antioxidant capabilities. The superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity of Acai was 1614 units/g, which is an extremely high free radical scavenging capacity and by far the highest of any fruit or vegetable tested to date (Schauss A et al, 2006)
Acai may have anti inflammatory effects. Acai was found to be a potent cyclooxygenase (COX)-1 and COX-2 inhibitor.
Acai may be protective to the cardiovascular system. Showed an endothelium dependant vasodilator effect on the4 vascular bed of rats. fractions from acai inhibited NO (nitric oxide) production by reducing the levels of inducible nitric oxide synthase expression.
Acai fruit extract shown to kill leukaemia cells in cell culture. In a study by the university of Florida, 6 different chemical extracts were made from acai fruit pulp and each extract was prepared in seven concentrations. Four of the extracts were shown to kill significant numbers of leukemia cells when applied for 24 hours. Depending on the extract and concentration, anywhere from about 35 percent to 86 percent of the cells died.
Consume 1 capsule with water as needed.
History Of PharmaFoods
PharmaFoods was set up in 1994 with one of Australia’s leading nutrition experts, Dr Robert Buist, as a co-founder. Over more than a decade at the helm of the company he has pioneered a range of nutritional supplements specifically designed to address the causes of clinical disorders, rather than merely the symptoms. During this time he has been the Director of the International Academy of Nutrition, while producing three best-selling books on nutrition and numerous scientific research papers. He is also a regular guest expert on radio and television shows across Australia.
It is to this breadth of knowledge that PharmaFoods owes its reputation for consistently providing clients with a range that is both innovative and clinically effective. Now that the company has been acquired by arguably the most prestigious name in the field of complementary medicine, BioCeuticals, the scope for continued research and development of superior nutritional supplements has been further enhanced. Dr Buist now heads the combined BioCeuticals/PharmaFoods Scientific Advisory Board — an international group comprised of some of the world’s most qualified experts in the field.*
With this newly acquired scientific backing, at a time when public awareness of the advantages of optimal nutrition has never been greater, the next logical step for PharmaFoods is to make its previous practitioner-only range available in pharmacies. Here the consumer can be advised by their pharmacist on the best complementary, or companion, PharmaFoods product for their condition—making the pharmacy a one-stop shop, not only for pharmaceutical advice but also for nutritional guidance.
