Common Uses

Meno-Mize is specifically designed to provide support during the changes of menopause. Meno-Mize contains a well-researched extract of Black Cohosh proven to be effective for managing undesirable menopausal symptoms including hot flushes, sleep disruption and mood changes. Also included in this formula is Sage, traditionally used for temperature balance to assist with excessive perspiration, and Motherwort which is a calming nervous system tonic.

Suggested Dosage

Adults take 2 tablets daily, 1 tablet morning and evening, or as professionally prescribed.

Health Information

Menomize contains 3 herbs - Black cohosh, Motherwort and Sage. Among Native Americans and early settlers in North America, Black Cohosh root was an important folk medicine for menstrual irregularities and as an aid in child birth. Adopted in medical practices in the early nineteenth century, it had a great reputation as an anti-inflammatory for arthritis and rheumatism; for normalising suppressed or painful menses; and for relieving pain after child birth. It was also used for nervous disorders. The root was an official drug in the US pharmacopoeia from 1820 to 1926. Black Cohosh has been approved for use in Germany for helping with premenstrual symptoms, painful or difficult menstruation & for menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes. Many studies confirm its mild sedative & anti-inflammatory activity. An Isoflavone in the root binds to estrogen receptors, producing estrogenic like activity. As ovarian function declines during menopause, estrogen production also declines and lutenising hormone (LH) increases. These changes are associated with hot flushes. In one study an alcohol extract of Black Cohosh lowered LH in both animals and women, reducing hot flushes. Three as yet unidentified compounds are believed to work in concert to produce the benefits. Another study compared the effects of conventional estrogen replacement therapy with Black Cohosh in 60 women less than 40 years old who had complete hysterectomies and were experiencing menopause like symptoms. In all groups, a reduction in LH was observed. Black Cohosh treatment was comparable to conventional treatment. It is useful to note that Black Cohosh is contra indicated in early pregnancy but considered useful as a parturient in the last 4 weeks of term. Motherwort is a herb to provide further support to the nervous system during menopause, its gentle but effective nervine properties support and calm the nervous system. It aids in relaxation to promote better sleep and helps to normalise heart palpitations. Sage has been added to the formula to enhance the anti-hydrotic (sweating) effects of the black cohosh. Additionally sage has a gentle balancing effect on the nervous system easing nervous debility or exhaustion. Research is continuing with the use of sage as a brain tonic and its ability to enhance mental capabilities including memory.
