Ear Candles by Louise
1 Pair
Ear candling is a gentle way to remove: excess earwax; debris from past and current infections; fluid in the ear canal (especially in people who swim or surf a lot); and ear infection or sinus pain caused by blockages, which bring about excess pressure. Ear candling is also great to do before flying as it clears the tubes (which will prevent pain from the increased air pressure on take off and landing). It is an effective treatment gentle enough for use on children and those with painful ear infections.
Directions for use: You will need: A partner to assist you; scissors; a pillow; a small bowl of water; matches or a lighter. Patient: Lie on your side comfortably. For children, let them put on a favourite video etc. The assisting partner: 1.Light the ear candle and place the narrow end of the ear candle gently but snugly into the entrance of the ear canal, facing it upwards and keeping the ear candle upright. Small crackling sounds will be heard as the candle burns. 2. When the ear candle has burned down about 5cms, temporarily remove the ear candle and trim off the burnt excess into the water bowl. Tap the narrow end of the ear candle over the bowl, to let the drawn out ear wax fall into the water. If ear candling children, let them get up and have a quick wriggle. 3. Place the candle back into the same ear and continue burning, trimming when necessary, until approximately 10cms of ear candle remains. 4. Remove the ear candle and douse it in the bowl of water. Repeat the process with the remaining ear candle in the other ear. NOTE: This is a relaxing procedure so do this with a partner for safety reasons, or have a therapist do it for you. If you have an ear infection or head cold, another ear candling is recommended after the infection has cleared to draw out the remaining debris. Helpful hints for using your Ear Candles: 1. When ear candling children, put on their favourite video to entertain them and introduce Wiggle Time when you are trimming the ear candle: let them get up and wriggle vigorously. 2. Gently blow up the candle if smoke starts to seep out the base. 3. A damp flannel can be used to wipe any dried wax that remains around the outer ear.
How do Ear Candles work? One end of the ear candle is lit and the tapered end is placed inside (or snugly fitted to the outside of) the ear canal. The air trapped in the ear candle, warms up and circulates in the ear canal drying out all the excess earwax, infection and water in the ear. Due to the mild vacuum created by the flame, it is then drawn out of the ear and up into the ear candle. I have used other brands of ear candles before. How are these different? Ear Candles By Louise do not have a filter inside the ear candle because the earwax is drawn up into the ear candle and sticks to other earwax to form clumps that are too big to fall back out the narrow opening at the base. These clumps will only fall out upon hard tapping of the base of the ear candle (see instructions). The ear candles themselves only produce a small amount of residue. These ear candles need to be trimmed every 5cms or so to remove the burnt cotton remaining for safety reasons (see instructions). This gives you a great opportunity to clean out the drawn out ear wax/infection that is in the ear candle, by tapping the tapered end of the ear candle (with your scissors, over the bowl of water as per instruction sheet). This allows the air in the ear candle to circulate well and therefore draw out more ear wax/infection. When ear candling children, this is a great opportunity to allow them to briefly get up and wriggle around. They find the ear candling process much easier when they can have "wriggle time" (see instructions). These ear candles are bigger, which makes them easier to hold, and also creates much more air circulation (and drawing action) which in turn will draw more ear wax/infection/water out. This is a New Zealand product, handmade from pure beeswax and 100% cotton. No additives or strong smelling oils. The cotton does not touch the skin so anyone concerned about non-organic cotton can be assured. When can I use the ear candles? Ear candles can be used at anytime to remove excess earwax - often we don't even know that we have excess earwax until we find a large amount come out after ear candling! Ear candles can be used to relieve the pain of an ear infection and after the infection is cleared to draw out the remaining infection debris. During head colds, sinus pressure and to prevent ear infections in children, and allow better hearing in all of us particularly hearing aid wearers. Before flying and diving to relieve pressure problems. After swimming or surfing to dry out the remaining water. How often can I use the ear candles? As often as you like. If you are still getting lots of ear wax/infection out of the ear at the end of the ear candling, you can use more ear candles straight away. If you find you are not getting a lot of earwax out of the ears, then your ears are fairly clean and you may find you only need to use them once every 6 months or even once a year. When you have an ear infection, head cold, sinus pressure however, do use the ear candles to relieve the pain and pressure. Can I reuse these ear candles? No. These are a single use product. When is it not suitable to use ear candles? It is not recommended to use ear candles if you have a perforated eardrum or if grommets are in place. Once the grommets are removed, ear candling can prevent any further need of them.
