In preparation for pregnancy, women should stop taking the contraceptive pill at least six months before conception. The contraception pill increases the body's need for vitamin B6, B1, B2 C, folic acid and zinc. These nutrients are usually marginal or deficient in most women on contraceptive pills. Start taking a multivitamin 2-3 months prior topregnancy as well as during pregnancy and maintain a good diet. PregaVit is recommended for use pre-conceptually, during pregnancy and while breast-feeding, particularly for women who may have suspected or potential complications due to a history from previous pregnancies. Lifestyle, family history, mood dysregulation and exposure to environmental chemicals are reasons to use nutrient support. PregaVit is specifically recommended for women with sub-optimal diets, multiple pregnancies, low nutrient reserves or those who are under stress.
Adult dosage: 1 capsule 2 - 3 times daily with food.
Clinicians Pregavit is a combination of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and co factors designed to address the nutritional status of pregnant women and their developing babies. Vitamin and mineral supplementation during pregnancy is recommended not just for women with low nutritional status, but also for healthy women without lifestyle risks. For best results Clinicians Pregavit should be taken for 2-3 months prior to conception. This allows the body time to build up sufficient nutrient stores to assist conception and support a healthy pregnancy. Ideally Pregavit supplementation should continue during breast feeding to provide ongoing support for both mother and baby. Pregavit contains key nutrients known to be deficient in NZ soil, namely iodine and selenium. The American Thyroid Association recommends pregnant women consume 150mcg/day of iodine during their pregnancy, given its role in protecting against miscarriage, stillbirth and birth defects. Vitamin A has been included in the formula given its essential role in normal fetal development. This vitamin also helps mobilize iron stores and as such, can assist with anaemia during pregnancy. This product also contains 20mg of Vitamin B6 which is the dose known to help relieve the symptoms of nausea during pregnancy. Chromium has also been included to support healthy glucose tolerance during pregnancy. It is estimated that 2% of pregnant women develop gestational diabetes most often in the second or third trimester. Studies have shown that supplemental chromium in the picolinate form improves glucose tolerance in non-diabetic women during pregnancy and can also reduce LDL and total cholesterol. Pregavit does not contain iron, as supplementation of this mineral should only be administered during pregnancy if there is a proven need. Iron levels should be regularly monitored throughout pregnancy and supplementation given upon diagnostic findings.
