Biotin is a water soluble B complex vitamin that is produced in the intestines by bacteria, as well as by the diet. As a co enzyme, it assists in the making of fatty acids, in nucleic acid synthesis and in the oxidation of fatty acids and carbohydrates. Without biotin, the body's fat production is impaired. It also aids in the utilisation of protein, folic acid, pantothenic acid and Vitamin B12. Biotin is an essential nutrient that appears in trace amounts in all animal and plant tissue. Some rich sources are brewers yeast, pork and lamb liver, royal jelly, unpolished rise and whole grains, nuts, egg yolks, sardines, soy beans, lentils, cauliflower and mushrooms. Biotin is synthesised by the intestinal bacteria. Some of the vitamin is absorbed in the intestines, but much is excreted in the urine. It is stored mainly in the liver, kidney, brain and adrenal glands. Biotin without pantothenic acid may cause colour change in the hair, although there is no test to prove this. Ascorbic acid synthesis requires biotin. It works well with B2, B6, B12, folic acid, pantothenic acid STH (a growth hormone) and testosterone. Dermatitis has shown improvement when treated with biotin. B2, B6, Niacin, A and D work together for health skin. The use of biotin has been beneficial in preventing baldness and greying hair. It is said to boost athletic performance. Biotin is known for the maintenance of sebaceous glands, nerves, bone marrow and sex glands.
Each vegetarian capsule provides: Biotin (as prep.) 1000mcg, Bulking agent: microcrystalline cellulose. Vegetable capsule shell (hydropropylmethyl cellulose). Anti caking agents: Stearic acid, magnesium stearate.
