Common Uses

The level of estrogen (female sex hormone) in saliva increases dramatically two to three days prior to ovulation and reaches its peak during the day of ovulation. High levels of oestrogen are evident in a saliva sample when viewed through a microscope. The Maybe Baby microscope gives you the ability to view your own saliva sample and can therefore help determine the most fertile period of your reproductive cycle. Maybe Baby can help maximise the possibility for a successful pregnancy.

When dried saliva is viewed through a microscope it reveals distinct patterns. These patterns will help you determine which stage of your cycle you are in.

Who is Maybe Baby suitable for?

Couples who want children and will benefit from knowing when conception is most probable. The Maybe Baby can help determine this time, because the level of estrogen in saliva increases dramatically 2 to 3 days prior to ovulation and reaches its peak during the day of ovulation.  At this time, the fern leaf structure should clearly be visible. 

Couples who want to increase the probability of the desired gender of the child conceived. male sperm swim faster but die sooner. if you are trying for a boy, having sexual intercourse the day of ovulation may increase your chances. Female sperm swim slower but live longer. if you are trying for a girl, having sexual intercourse 2-3 days before ovulation and abstaining afterwards may increase your chances. 

Before using Maybe Baby please read the instructions completely.

The accuracy of results will depend on how well the instructions are followed.

Suggested Dosage

How to use Maybe baby Correctly. There are very detailed instructions included in the kit, with coloured photographs, to explain exactly how to use this fantastic device.

For best results maybe baby should be used immediately after waking and before eating, drinking, smoking or brushing of your teeth.

1.  Ensure you have not had anything to eat or drink for at least 3 hours prior to using Maybe Baby.

2. Remove the protective cover.

3. Remove the Viewfinder.

4. Clean the flat internal glass surface of the viewfinder with the lint free cloth provides. Do NOT use water, cleaning products or a cloth which may scratch the lens.

5. Using a clean fingertip, place a smear of saliva over the flat internal glass surface of the view finder. make sure there are no bubbles of saliva on the lens.

6. Leave saliva to dry for approx. 10 minutes. The indication of oestrogen in the saliva (ie fern like pattern)  will only appear in a dry saliva sample.

7. Replace the viewfinder.

8. Hold your maybe baby up to your eye.

9. Press the light switch on the bottom of the maybe Baby.

10. View the results through the viewfinder.

11. If necessary, rotate the eyepiece until the pattern is clear.

12. Record results on the chart provided.

13. Clean the internal surface of the viewfinder as per step 4.

During the Fertile period the oestrogen level increases and the microscope pattern observed through the maybe baby viewfinder will have the appearance of a fern leaf. The fern leaf pattern usually will begin to appear from 3-4 days before ovulation. This is the optimum time for conception. Where little dots or pebble like patterns appear, a women is in an infertile period. The Transitional Phase occurs as the cycle moves from an infertile to fertile period or fertile to infertile period. Conception is possible during the Transitional phase when the patterns observed through maybe baby viewfinder are mixed.

Health Information

Maybe Baby is a compact microscope designed to help you predict when you are most likely to conceive. Maybe Baby allows you to view the level of estrogen in your saliva and therefore pinpoint when conception is possible. This is because the level of estrogen (female sex hormone) in saliva increases dramatically two to three days prior to ovulation and reaches its peak during the day of ovulation. Scientific research has shown that these high levels of estrogen can be seen in a saliva sample when viewed through a microscope. Maybe Baby provides you with the convenience of a compact microscope so you can view your own saliva sample and identify when you are ovulating. And since you can only fall pregnant if you have intercourse in the fertile period around ovulation (approximately five days), its important to be able to pinpoint when this period is.

Maybe Baby can help you pinpoint the most fertile period of the reproductive cycle and therefore help maximize the possibility for a successful pregnancy.

Who is Maybe baby NOT suitable for?

Maybe Baby will produce an accurate result most of the time. However is will not work for everyone. 

It is NOT suitable under the following circumstances.

Estrogen levels.  The Maybe Baby microscope magnifies your saliva. This allows you to see when estrogen levels are high. Therefore anything that affects estrogen levels in the body ( for example, medications, infections, breastfeeding and pregnancy) may affect the results.

Your Maybe Baby reading may also be affected if you have naturally high or naturally low estrogen levels.

Medication: Any medication which affects estrogen levels or mucus structure may affect the reading.  For example fertility medications, the contraceptive pill and expectorant medication.

>  Fertility medications increase the levels of estrogen in a women's body and therefore may result in the fern like image being produced every day.

> Any medication (including expectorant medication) which modifies the mucus structure may give a false reading.

> Hormonal contraception (eg the pill) affects the hormones in your body and will affect your saliva sample.  If you have recently stopped using hormonal contraception you may wish to wait until you have at least 2 natural menstrual cycles in a row (lasting 21 to 42 days) before attempting to become pregnant or using Maybe Baby.

Low Estrogen Level in the body:  This does not indicate that you are infertile or that you do not ovulate.  However Maybe baby requires a minimum of estrogen in the saliva to see the fern pattern.  If you have very low estrogen levels, Maybe Baby microscope will be unable to detect them.  Your saliva will therefore NOT produce the fern image during ovulation.

High Estrogen levels in the body: Some women may have naturally high estrogen levels.  This will be visible in the microscope and will produce an ongoing fern pattern.

Pregnancy: Pregnancy increases the estrogen levels in a women's body and may result in the ongoing appearance of the fern image.

Breastfeeding: Due to hormonal changes in the body when breastfeeding, your results could be inaccurate.

Infections: If you have an oral infection or an infection of the pharyngeal cavity, your saliva will be contaminated and may give a false reading.

The Light

Occasionally the connection between the Maybe Baby batteries may need adjusting.

If the light suddenly stops working or only works at times, please follow the instructions to adjust the battery. 

Adjusting the batteries.

Unlock the base by turning the light housing (grey end of Maybe Baby - Part 4) Anti clockwise.

Gently remove the housing

Remove the coloured plastic protective covering enclosing the batteries.

Remove the batteries

Insert the batteries positive (flat) side up

Replace the base and lock it into position by turning clockwise.

BE GENTLE - Do not force the batteries out without unlocking the base first. This could result in the base being broken.
