This south Pacific Island root herb has been used by South Pacific indigenous people for thousands of years. Health Information

Kava extract has a non-additive, relaxing and sedative action. Research suggests that the primary effect of Kava appears to be stimulation followed by sedation of the central nervous system. Small doses produce a sense of well being, while large doses or frequently repeated small doses produce extreme relaxation and may induce sleep. Several clinical studies have demonstrated that standardized Kava extracts produce sedation and changes in the brain's electrical impulses, similar to some sedative drugs, but without the unwanted side effects. It appears that the limbic structures of the brain are the main areas extensively affected by the kavalactones in Kava extracts. The limbic structures are the areas of the brain that produce and process emotions. Acting on these centres produces feelings of peace, and help promote relaxation and sleep, without sedation or sleep hangover. In individuals with anxiety, Kava extract has been shown to improve vigilance, memory and reaction time. Research and clinical trials have shown that Kava also exerts a tranquillising and anti-anxiety effect comparable to several drug medications such as Oxazepam and Xanax. Kava extract also exerts muscle-relaxing and spasmolytic effects on both skeletal and smooth muscles. Best results are achieved at the recommended dosage, as excessive dosage may cause lethargy or lack of muscular co-ordination. In addition to its anti-anxiety and relaxant properties, Kava offers other benefits. It acts as a tonic for the gastrointestinal tract, being especially helpful for individuals with sluggish digestion and a lethargic disposition.

Ingredients

Each capsule contains: Kava root extract (piper methysticum) 250mg, Siberian eleuthero root (Eleutherococcus senticosus) 100mg. Gelatin capsule, magnesium stearate, silica. No corn, egg, gluten, milk derivatives, nuts, salicylates, salt, soy, sugar, wheat, yeast, artificial preservatives, flavouring or colours.
