Common Uses

Also known as Bearberry. A urinary antiseptic which inhibits bacteria in the urinary tract making it especially useful for any genito-urinary tract infection such as cystitis, dysuria, urethritis, pyelitis (kidney inflammation) and prostatitis. [Please note that all suspected kidney problems need to be investigated by your healthcare professional]. Uva ursi helps strengthen the bladder and urinary sphincters making it useful in the treatment of incontinence and nocturia (bed wetting). Used traditionally as an effective diuretic for the relief of fluid retention.

Suggested Dosage

Take two capsules two times daily with water at mealtimes. This product is not recommended for long term use.

Health Information

Uva ursi is a urinary antiseptic. Also considered to be an astringent, but some pharmacological studies do not bear this out. The antibacterial effects of this herb are believed to be due to the conversion in the kidney of arbutin to hydroquinine or its esters. Hydroquinone very effectively inhibits the growth of a number of infective organisms including E. coli, Klebsiella, Staphylococcus and Pseudomonas. The herbs high tannin content provides efficient local astringency and may assist with reducing diarrhoea. Clinical usage has shown this herb to be useful not only for urinary tract infection, but also for mild urinary tract weakness, urinary incontinence and poor bladder control. May be useful in animal incontinence.

Ingredients

Each 2 capsules contains Uva Ursi, dried leaf extract 665mg, Uva Ursi leaf 300mg. Other ingredients: Millet, Gelatin, Magnesium Stearate. This product provides a high potency (20% Arbutin) extract, synergistically blended with the whole herb.

Safety Information

Keep out of reach of children. Do not use during pregnancy or lactation. Because of astringent nature, prolonged use may result in constipation. Can be combined with cranberry powdered concentrate in urinary tract infections. Contraindicated in kidney disorders as kidney disease can not be self-diagnosed. Not recommended for concomitant use with diuretic medications. Large dosage may lead to nausea and vomiting.
