An adequate supply of the B Vitamins is essential for good health. The B vitamins function in many different ways to help enzymes carry out thousands of molecular conversions in the body. They provide the body with energy by aiding in the conversion of carbohydrates to glucose, which the body burns to produce energy. The grouping of these compounds under the term B complex is based on their common source distribution, their close relationship in vegetable and animal tissues and their functional relationships. Eating processed foods create a deficiency. They are also vital in the metabolism of fats and protein. B complex vitamins are water soluble. This means that any excess amounts are excreted and not stored in the body. Therefore they must be continually replaced. However it is important that none of the B vitamins are taken on their own.
