Common Uses

A lot of people find that to eat the required amount of protein for them each day is quite difficult, especially those who do not eat a lot of meat. Because of this, we are now stocking an excellent range of protein powders including both whey and soy powders for different needs. There are approximately 18 grams of actual protein in 3 spoons of powder and only 2 grams of carbohydrate! It comes in both chocolate and vanilla. It mixes well with water or milk, in the blender, to a smooth delicious drink that will give most people 1/3 of their daily protein needs. Try blending with frozen berries. Yumm. For those who do not want a whey based product (due to dairy allergy or veganism) we also stock a soy based protein. This also comes in both vanilla and chocolate. Each serve provides 20 grams of high quality protein and only 1 gram of carbohydrate. Both of these protein sources also come in a plain packet, that is not flavoured or sweetened called Instantised whey powder and Soy isolate powder. Red 8 also have Soy nuggets, a breakfast "cereal" alternative and Protein pancake mix, a high protein pancake mix.

Suggested Dosage

Each 3 tablespoons (approx 30 gram) provides approx 20grms of protein. Mix with water, milk (soy, rice, almond, cow etc) juice or sprinkle on cereal. Add to a meal, to increase the protein content of this.

Soy Protein Isolate uses SUPRO brand isolated soy protein which is a high quality plant based protein that helps build and maintain muscle mass and lean muscle. It has a protein digestibility corrected amino acid score (PDCAAS) of 1.0 which is the highest score that a protein can have. It is highly digestible and can maintain nitrogen balance when fed as the sole protein source at minimum intake levels. Comparisons of SUPRO to Whey, casein, egg white and beef protein indicates that SUPRO contains higher amounts of Arginine, SUPRO is a rich source of the Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAA). Arginine - plays a key role in stimulating release of anabolic hormones that promote muscle formation. For Athletes Arginine may play a key role in muscle formation reduction of physiological stress and in helping to maintain a strong and healthy immune system. Branched Chain Amino Acids - The Branch Chain Amino Acids are used as an energy source during exercise (21) in the first twenty minutes of moderate to intense exercise performance muscle glycogen is used as the primary energy source and provides glucose for muscle fuelling. After this initial 20 minute phase of exercise fatty acids in the BCAAS are used as major energy sources.
