Common Uses

The incidence of yeast infections (candida and thrush) increase sharply with diets which are rich in sugar, the use of birth control pills, hormonal changes during each menstrual cycle, the use of cortisone type steroid hormones and antibiotics. Antibiotic drugs, especially broad spectrum antibiotics make yeasts grow. Such drugs destroy the balance of good bacteria, as well as the bad ones - yeasts then multiply. It is said that for each 1 course of antibiotics you take, you need to take an acidophilus supplement for 2-3 weeks afterwards, just to replace the beneficial bacteria that was destroyed from this 1 course. Candida albicans is a yeast which is a single cell fungi normally living in your body and more especially in your intestines. They are not new. Textbooks of paediatrics of the 1700 and 1800's also described thrush. Caprylic acid was first investigated for its anti-fungal use in 1938-39 but it wasn't until the mid 80's that its use became wide spread and accepted. Radiance Caprylac is recommended for use as a anti-fungal supplement during treatment for Candida albicans. At low doses it shows a fungistatic action by inhibiting the separation of buds from the parent candida cell. At higher doses it destroys the integrity of the cell wall causing the cells to leak and collapse. Caprylac binds to the candida cells and begins its action within 5 minutes of contact. Oral candidiasis occurs in the mouth, thrush occurs in the vagina and men can experience itching in the genital area. Other symptoms of a yeast overgrowth include fatigue, constipation or diarrhoea or erratically between the two (IBS), thrush, cystitis, dandruff, a lot of skin disorders and what they call Personality problems - depression, mood swings. You can still have a candida overgrowth and not experience these symptoms.

Suggested Dosage

Take one tablet daily, preferably with food. For intensive use, this may be increased to 1 tablet two to three times daily with meals. For best results, it is essential that all sugar, yeast and alcohol is removed from the diet while taking this supplement. Drink at least 2 litres of water each day to flush the dead yeast cells out of the body. The more you drink water, the less the die-off reaction will be - so drink drink drink!

In a healthy body unfriendly organisms are usually kept under control by the body's natural defence system and the friendly gut bacteria, Lactobacillus acidophilus. Frequent or prolonged use of antibiotics depletes this good bacteria, while leaving other, normally present unfriendly organisms plenty of room to grow. Caprylic acid is a long-chain fatty acid naturally occurring in coconut. Because it is toxic to yeast and safe for humans when taken in prescribed dosage limits, it is often used as an anti fungal agent in a yeast-control program. The anti fungal effect of caprylic acid has been demonstrated in both clinical and in vitro studies. In the pH range of 2.5 - 8.5, caprylic acid exhibits high fungicidal activity against yeasts, especially Candida Albicans. In vitro testing using 0.5x - 5M caprylic acid destroys 100% of all Candida cells within 60 minutes at pH 6. The exact mechanism of fungicidal action is not fully understood; however, it is postulated that caprylic acid dissolves the cell membrane of the yeast, causing changes in fluidity and permeability. This leads to membrane disaggregation. Caprylic acid is readily absorbed in the intestines; however, the sustained release formula allows for a slow, uniform dispersion along the intestinal length ensuring delivery of caprylic acid to the colon region where Candida infestation is usually maximal. It has been said that Candida migrate into the mucosal wall. Because of its lipotropic properties (which allow it to penetrate mucosal cells) caprylic acid is also believed to be effective against intramucosal Candida. Absorbed caprylic acid can be oxidized both in the mitochondrial and extra-mitochondrial compartments of mammalian tissues thereby eliminating additional toxic burden to the liver. Caprylic acid is virtually non-toxic and non- sensitising at the recommended dosages. Very large doses (5 times the recommended dose) can cause mucosal irritation and produce diarrhoea and nausea. In a lot of people, fatigue and flu-like symptoms may occur during the first 2-5 days of use. This reaction is currently described as a yeast die-off and re-absorption phenomenon. Die-off occurs when yeast are killed and they temporarily release more toxins into circulation and make the patient feel worse before feeling better. Symptoms may range from mild to severe, and include fatigue, headaches, nausea, flu-like aches, malaise, itching, diarrhoea, hives and nearly any symptom the yeast are known to produce. It very important to be aware that Candida will not be controlled if you do not change your diet. Foods such as sugar, yeast, yeast products, mouldy foods and anything that has been fermented need to be eliminated 100% or this problem will not get under control. You need to take Primadophilus, our preferred acidophilus supplement, with this, as this will help to put the good bacteria back into the intestines. Taking colostrum will also help, as this feeds the good bacteria and also has the ability to neutralise yeasts and boost immune function.

Dicalcium phosphate, microcrystalline cellulose, povidone, crosscarmellose, silica, stearic acid, magnesium stearate, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose. No corn, egg, gluten, milk derivatives, nuts, salicylates, salt, soy, sugar, wheat, added yeast, artificial flavours, preservatives or colours.

Safety Information

Keep out of reach of children. Do not use while pregnant or breast feeding. Headaches can occur after the first few days due to the die-off effect of the Candida. This is only temporary and indicates that Caprylac is doing its job. Persevere!!! and drink plenty of water to flush the dead yeast cells out of the body.
