Health Information

Boswellia Serrata is a large, branching deciduous tree which grows abundantly in the dry hilly parts of India. The tree produces a resin which is treated through specialised and patented processes to produce the extract used in Nature's Way Standardized Boswellia extract capsules. The major use of Boswellia Serrata is as an anti-arthritic and anti-inflammatory. Its anti-inflammatory actions, supported by solid science, are attributed mainly to the presence of Boswellic acids and are indicated for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, soft tissue rheumatism, gout, lower back pain and fibrositis. Rheumatoid arthritis is a relatively common disease and a great crippler, causing immense physical suffering. While it is usually not possible to cure the disease, it is possible to alleviate the physical pain, increase mobility and help prevent further tissue damage. Most widely used orthodox drugs produce undesirable side effects, including gastric irritation and bleeding. The therapeutic action of Boswellia includes reduction of joint swelling, restoration and improvement of blood supply to inflamed joints, pain relief, increased mobility, decreased morning stiffness and a general improvement in the quality of life. Boswellic acids function as potent anti-inflammatory agents being especially effective in shrinking inflamed tissues. This occurs through improved blood supply to the joints thereby improving the integrity of the blood vessels that have been adversely affected by spasms. Boswellia extract, while providing effective in the treatment of different chronic inflammatory conditions, produces none of the common side-effects associated with conventional non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) such as ibuprofen, Naprosyn and Voltaren. There are no reports of gastric ulceration, no bleeding, no gastric perforation and no kidney disease with Boswellia. Boswellia is a generally safe and effective natural alternative to NSAIDs. There are times however when potent drugs may be necessary, but the use of these especially by people over the age of 60 should be as sparingly as possible. Research is America showed that elderly users of NSAIDs are four times more likely to die from ulcers and internal bleeding than patients not using these drugs. NSAIDs can disrupt the natural intestinal flora but Primadophilus capsules can help correct this.
