New Research Into Damaged Ligaments

New Research Into Damaged Ligaments

Wednesday, February 20th 2002

Researchers in America have announced that they have been able to grow ligaments that eventually will enable people to grown their own ligaments for knee repairs.

Laboratory tests have used the patients own bone marrow cells to seed the ligaments, on a specially designed silk matrix. These are then placed into a bioreactor tube. The resulting ligament is then placed into the patient.

Because the cells are the patient's own, there is no risk of rejection.

Usually, a torn cruciate ligament is replaced with a piece of hamstring.

There are a number of natural products that can assist with joint problems, and can assist the body to rebuild soft tissue in the joints.
