Wild yam has been used by many cultures for over 2,000 years. Today it is used extensively for the reduction of symptoms associated with hormonal imbalance.
In the 1940's the scientific community discovered that diosgenin, the active constituent in the roots of Mexican wild yam (Dioscorea villosa), could be used to synthetically produce oestrogen and progesterone. Today, topical preparations of wild yam are used by women around the world to help alleviate many of the symptoms associated with hormonal imbalance, peri-menopause and PMS.
Hormonal imbalance is created most commonly by inappropriate or excessive oestrogen dominance. Whilst the results of wild yam usage speaks for itself, the mechanism of action is not as clear. It is thought that the diosgenin in quality wild yam root topical preparations has the ability to bind to the same cell sites as progesterone, acting as a boost to natural progesterone levels.
"At Last there are choices"
At Last Naturals was one of the first companies to research and develop natural, diosgenin rich, Mexican wild yam root topical preparations for managing symptoms associated with hormonal imbalance during per-menopause and PMS. "Our line of Wild Yam products were developed by women, for women, and are based on the philosophy that joy in life is a question of balance".
