The Philip Morris Company is liable for the lung cancer of a Newport Beach, California, woman because the world's biggest cigarette maker hid the health risks of smoking, a state court jury has found. Philip Morris was ordered to pay US$850,000 (NZ$1.83 million) to compensate Betty Bullock for her illness. The Los Angeles Superior Court jury's decision is the latest of several trial defeats for Philip Morris on the United States west coast.
