Research on Rheumatoid Arthritis

Research on Rheumatoid Arthritis

Saturday, January 1st 2005

The results of recent studies represent a major breakthrough in helping rheumatoid arthritis.

Research has examined the value of Efamarine and has shown that patients with rheumatoid arthritis can control the inflammation and also reduce their non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and anti-inflammatory drug therapy.

A 12 month, double-blind, placebo controlled trial, conducted by Dr Belch at the Glasgow University Medical School showed 92% of patients taking Efamol Efamarine capsules reported substantial improvements in their health and well being. Dr Belch said the results "were encouraging and should open the way to the development of a completely new treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. "The trial also showed 60% of patients taking the Efamarine were able to stop taking their anti-inflammatory drugs." Reduced inflammation can mean less joint stiffness, better grip strength and less pain.

Whilst its cause is still debated, scientists agree the body's balance of prostaglandins is involved.

Treatment with Evening Primrose Oil increases the GLA level, which leads to the production of anti-inflammatory prostaglandins and also the inhibition of leukotriene production. Studies show that an anti-inflammatory effect can be obtained by increasing dietary EPA in the form of fish oil.

Efamarine capsules are a patented fatty acid formula containing both omega 3 (from fish oil) and omega 6 (from Evening Primrose Oil) fatty acids.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Improvement

Chronic Fatigue, also known as Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME), is a complex syndrome. A double blind placebo controlled trial conducted by Behan et al assessed symptoms including fatigue, myalgia, dizziness, palpitations, concentration and depression. An assessment after three months showed:

? 85% of patients taking Efamarine rated themselves as better compared to only 17% in the placebo group.
? Levels of fatty acids in the blood, which had been significantly reduced, also returned towards or to normal in those on Efamarine capsules.
