Asthma and Wheezing Burden Underestimated

Despite the billions of dollars spent by pharmaceutical companies on researching asthma, cures based on drugs are no closer. Now, New Zealand is playing a crucial role in the development of an asthma vaccine! Very little research on the causes of asthma appears to have been done. In the 1980's it was discovered that New Zealand had a huge drug-related mortality rate amongst asthmatics leading to the removal of fenoterol from the market.

Is there natural relief for wheezing and asthma?

Many people have been helped simply by correcting their breathing habits. Research presented in the Archives of Disease in Childhood 2002 also indicates that children who are overly hygienic appear to be at increased risk of developing wheezing (a symptom of asthma) and the allergy related skin condition, eczema.

Asthma costs New Zealand $825 million a year in primary care services, hospital care pharmaceuticals, days of work lost and loss of a healthy life due to disability and premature death.

Its prevalence in New Zealand is still increasing.
