Cayenne to strengthen the circulation, equalise blood pressure, arrest bleeding & assist with colds

One of the most important uses of Cayenne is as a circulatory stimulant that feeds the necessary elements into arteries, veins & capillaries so that they regain elasticity and blood pressure returns to normal.

Cayenne

Cayenne, Louisiana Long, African Bird, Bell Pepper, Paprika and Pimento - from mild to wild, red peppers are a staple in the diets of some people from all around the world.

The key ingredient in Cayenne Pepper is a substance called capsaicin. Capsaicin is the fiery part that makes your eyes water and your mouth burn when you eat something containing cayenne. It is also the essential ingredient that provides cayenne's value as a healing herb.

Studies have revealed that this warming herb has a stimulating and invigorating effect on several body systems.

What health problems can Cayenne help with?

One of the most important uses of cayenne is as a circulatory stimulant, a herb that feeds the necessary elements into the cell structures of the arteries, veins and capillaries so that they regain elasticity and so that blood pressure returns to normal. If the blood cannot circulate freely, higher blood pressure is needed to force the blood though the veins. Cayenne equalises blood pressure, influencing the heart immediately.

Cayenne has been used as a remedy for heart attacks. As a stimulant, it can start the heart into action again and keep it going.

Cayenne is one of the richest and most stable sources of Vitamin E, which is known to be a heart builder.

Dr John Christopher, the late Master Herbalist, reported, "In 35 years of practice and working with people and teaching, I have never, on house calls, lost one heart attack patient and the reason is, whenever I go in - if they are still breathing - I give them a cup of cayenne tea (a teaspoon of cayenne in a cup of hot water) and within minutes they are up and walking around. This is one of the fastest acting aids we could give for the heart, because it feeds the heart immediately."

Red Hot Chilli Rub has an invigorating effect when applied to the skin and has been used for the temporary relief of minoraches and pains of muscles and joints, associated with simple backache, arthritis, strains, bruises and sprains. I personally have used it for chilblains and have recommended it for the pain often experienced with gout. As well as this, cayenne can help re-establish circulation to the limbs affected by frostbite and diabetes.

An ointment that contains an extract of cayenne, such as in Only Emu Red Hot Chilli Rub has been used therapeutically for painful muscle spasms in the shoulders, arms and spine. It is particularly effective against shingles. Initially it feels as though it is burning, but often within about a day, the shingles pain is noticeably reduced. The ointment has also been used for arthritis pain.

An internal dose will bring warmth and circulation to feet and hands that are chronically cold and suffering from chilblains.

One of cayenne's most common uses is as a gastric stimulant and digestive aid. It rebuilds the stomach tissue and stimulates peristalsis, thus assisting in assimilation and elimination.

Cayenne is used as a diaphoretic (to promote sweat). It should be given when a chill is coming on, to offset a cold or to break a fever, as it sustains circulation and assists in the removal of mucous. Mixed with ginger, cayenne does a wonderful job of cleaning out the bronchial tubes and sinus cavities and relieving all the problems of colds and congestion.

Cayenne works powerfully to arrest bleeding. According to Dr Christopher, "You can place cayenne powder on an open wound, even one that is gushing blood and by the count of ten, the bleeding will usually cease. If there is internal haemorrhaging in the lungs, stomach, uterus or nose, have the person take a teaspoon of cayenne in a glass of warm water." He states that the blood pressure will be equalised, taking the pressure off the affected part, clotting will begin and the haemorrhage will stop.

Cayenne would be a good herb to take if you suffer from any of the following ailments:

High or low blood pressure
Heart problems
To strengthen your circulatory system
Cold hands and feet
Chilblains
Shingles
Bleeding and wounds
Pain
Colds and flu
